This 25-litre plastic fermentation vessel with tap is the ideal primary fermenter for home brewing a standard 23-litre batch (approximately 40 pints). The large capacity leaves headspace for active fermentation, the tap makes draining and transferring beer simple and clean, and the lid is designed to accommodate a standard Bubbler Airlock.

Made from food-grade plastic, lightweight, and easy to clean. Sterilise thoroughly with Young's Steriliser before each use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why 25 litres for a 23-litre batch?
The extra 2 litres of headspace is essential. During active fermentation, yeast produces CO2 that causes vigorous bubbling and foaming — without headspace, the foam can reach the airlock and block it or spill out. The 25-litre vessel gives you the right amount of room for a safe, clean fermentation.
Does the lid fit a standard airlock?
Yes — the lid has a pre-fitted grommet that accepts a standard bubbler airlock. Simply push the airlock stem into the grommet for an airtight seal. If the grommet is missing or damaged, replacements are widely available.
Can I use this vessel for wine and cider as well as beer?
Yes — the 25-litre vessel is suitable for beer, wine, cider, and mead. It's the standard fermentation vessel for all home brewing styles. Make sure to sterilise thoroughly between different brews.
How do I clean and sterilise the fermentation vessel?
Rinse immediately after use to prevent residue drying. Before the next brew, clean with a bottle brush if needed, then sterilise with Young's Cleaner/Steriliser — dissolve in water, fill the vessel, leave 10 minutes, then drain and rinse thoroughly. Pay attention to the tap, which can harbour bacteria.
How many batches will this vessel last?
With proper care — rinsing after use, avoiding abrasive scrubbing, and correct sterilisation — a food-grade plastic vessel should last several years and many batches. Replace it if you notice scratches (which harbour bacteria) or if it develops persistent odours that don't wash out.
