What it does: this converter switches between kilograms, grams, pounds, ounces and stone, so you can follow an American or older British recipe with metric scales.

How to use it: type in the amount, choose the unit it's in, and you'll see it in kilograms with grams, pounds, ounces and stone underneath.

The formula in plain words: everything is converted to kilograms first, then to the other units. One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg, one ounce is about 28.35g, and one stone is 14 pounds, or about 6.35 kg.

Worked example: a recipe asks for 10 lb of pale malt. That's 4.536 kg. One ounce of hops is about 28g, so a recipe with "1 oz at 60 minutes" needs 28g on your scales.
