WineBuddy Wine Kits Review — Are They Any Good?

WineBuddy is one of the UK's most popular home wine kit brands, and the promise on the box is hard to ignore: a full case of wine in just 7 days, from a kit that fits on a kitchen worktop. But does it actually deliver? We've been stocking and selling WineBuddy kits at BrewCo UK for years, and this is our honest assessment.

The WineBuddy Range — 6 Bottle vs 30 Bottle

WineBuddy comes in two formats:

  • 6-bottle kits — produce 4.5 litres (6 x 750ml bottles) of wine. Quick, compact, ideal for trying a new style or if you don't have much space.
  • 30-bottle kits — produce 22.5 litres (30 x 750ml bottles). Better value per bottle, better quality result, but requires a full fermentation vessel.

Both use the same principle: concentrated grape juice or fruit juice, yeast, finings, and stabiliser — all included.

WineBuddy 6-Bottle Kits — Honest Review

The WineBuddy 6-bottle range covers red, white, and fruit wine styles. Our bestsellers are the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and the fruit varieties (Strawberry, Blackberry, Elderflower, Apricot, Peach, Black Cherry).

What they're good at: Speed and simplicity. The 7-day claim is genuine — you can have drinkable wine in a week. The fruit wine varieties in particular are impressive for the price and time investment. Elderflower, Strawberry and Blackberry all produce fresh, fragrant wines that are genuinely enjoyable.

Where they're limited: At 6 bottles, the kit is producing wine at quite a small volume, which means less room for error and less complexity than the 30-bottle versions. The reds are decent but lack the depth of a longer-fermented kit wine.

Verdict: Excellent value for fruit wines and white wines. A great entry point for wine making — cost per bottle works out around £1.50–£2.00 depending on which style.

WineBuddy 30-Bottle Kits — Honest Review

The WineBuddy 30-bottle range covers Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and White Zinfandel. At around £21.99 for 30 bottles, the cost per bottle is around 73p — extraordinary value compared to supermarket wine at £7–£10 per bottle.

What they're good at: The 30-bottle kits produce noticeably better wine than the 6-bottle versions. More volume means more complexity, better clarity, and a more rounded finish. The Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in particular are consistently impressive — clean, fresh, and genuinely enjoyable. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are solid everyday drinking reds.

Where they're limited: These are 7-day kits using concentrated juice, not premium grape must. They produce good table wine, not fine wine. If you want something more complex, look at Beaverdale or Cantina kits. But for everyday drinking wine at under £1 a bottle, they're outstanding.

Verdict: Highly recommended for anyone who drinks wine regularly. The Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are standout performers. The Merlot is a reliable everyday red.

What You Need to Make WineBuddy Kits

For the 6-bottle kit: the kit includes almost everything. You'll need a small fermenter or large jug, 6 wine bottles, corks or screw caps, and basic sterilising equipment.

For the 30-bottle kit: you'll need a 25 Litre Fermentation Vessel, Airlock, Steriliser, and Hydrometer at minimum. The same equipment you'd use for beer.
