The Better Brew Home Brew Kit Range is one of the best-value mid-range beer kit lines available in the UK — offering noticeably better quality than budget kits at a price that's still well within reach. At £15.99 per kit producing 40 pints, that's just 40p per pint for a genuinely enjoyable home brew beer.
Better Brew kits use quality hopped malt extract and come with a good range of classic and contemporary styles, making them a favourite for brewers who've outgrown the cheapest kits but don't want to spend premium prices every time.
Available in eight styles: IPA, Export Lager, Yorkshire Bitter, Irish Stout, Czech Pilsner, Northern Brown, Bandit Brew Tequila/Lime, and Midland Mild Ale.
About the Beer Styles
- IPA — A classic India Pale Ale with a robust hop bitterness, citrus notes, and more alcohol than a standard bitter. Rich and satisfying.
- Export Lager — A well-balanced, medium-hopped classic lager. Clean, crisp, and refreshing — best served cold.
- Yorkshire Bitter — A full-flavoured Northern bitter with good hop character and a satisfying dry finish. Quintessentially British.
- Irish Stout — Deep brown-black with a creamy head and notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Smooth and drinkable.
- Czech Pilsner — A crisp, Bohemian-style pilsner with a clean malt base and noble hop character. Elegant and refreshing.
- Northern Brown — Smooth and relatively dry with a brown amber colour, nutty aftertaste, and a hint of fruitiness. A classic Northern English style.
- Bandit Brew Tequila/Lime — A fun and refreshing Mexican-style light beer flavoured with tequila and lime. Something a little different and very drinkable.
- Midland Mild Ale — A classic dark mild with a malty palate, low bitterness, and moderate sweetness. Approachable and easy drinking.
What's Included
Each Better Brew kit contains a tin of hopped malt extract and yeast. Add water, sugar (or spray malt for a better result), and ferment for 7–10 days. Full instructions included.
What Equipment Do You Need?
A 25-litre fermentation bucket, airlock, hydrometer, siphon, and bottles or a barrel. Our home brew starter kits include all the essentials. A good sanitiser like VWP or StarSan is non-negotiable.
Tips for Best Results
- Use light spray malt instead of plain sugar for a fuller body and better head on all styles
- Ferment at a stable 18–22°C — temperature swings are the most common cause of off-flavours
- Condition in the bottle for at least 7–10 days before drinking
- For the lager and pilsner styles, serve very cold for the best result
