Tiny Rebel CWTCH is one of the most exciting home brew kits available anywhere in the UK. Tiny Rebel are a Newport-based craft brewery who took the world by storm when CWTCH won CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain in 2015 — the first Welsh beer ever to do so. Now you can brew it at home.

"Cwtch" (pronounced "kutch") is a Welsh word with no direct English translation — it means a warm, safe place, or a loving hug. It perfectly captures this beer: rich, malty, and deeply satisfying, with a complexity that keeps drawing you back.

This 3kg kit produces approximately 36 pints of authentic CWTCH Welsh Red Ale at home, using the same malt and hop profile as the original award-winning recipe.

About the Beer

CWTCH is an untraditional Welsh Red Ale — it has the warmth and malt richness you'd expect from a red ale, but with a more modern hop character than classic British styles. Expect deep amber to red colour, a complex malt backbone with notes of toffee and biscuit, and a satisfying dry-hopped aroma with hints of citrus and resin. Full-bodied, well-balanced, and genuinely special.

  • Style: Welsh Red Ale
  • ABV: Approximately 4.6%
  • Makes: ~36 pints (3kg kit)
  • Accolades: CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain 2015 — first Welsh beer to win

What's Included

The kit contains a 3kg premium hopped malt extract pouch, yeast, and full step-by-step instructions. Add water and a small amount of light spray malt (recommended over plain sugar for this style) and ferment for 10–14 days.

What Equipment Do You Need?

A 25-litre fermentation vessel, airlock, hydrometer, siphon, and bottles or a pressure barrel. Our home brew starter kits include all the essentials. Use a good no-rinse sanitiser like StarSan — this is too good a kit to risk with unclean equipment.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use medium crystal spray malt in place of plain sugar to enhance the toffee and biscuit character
  • Ferment at 18–20°C for the cleanest result — avoid fermenting warm, which can add unwanted fruity esters
  • Condition in the bottle for at least 2–3 weeks — CWTCH genuinely improves with time and is at its best around 4 weeks
  • Serve cool at around 10–12°C to bring out the full malt complexity
  • Add a small dry hop of Citra or Mosaic pellets during secondary fermentation for an extra hop aroma punch
