Columbus (also marketed as CTZ alongside Tomahawk and Zeus) is a high-alpha American dual-purpose hop with a robust, resinous and earthy character. Its bold, pungent bitterness is matched by dark fruit, liquorice and diesel-like complexity that makes it a staple bittering hop.
- Alpha acid: 14-17%
- Aroma: Earthy, resinous, black pepper, dark fruit, diesel
- Best for: bittering; also effective dry hopped for earthy depth
- Great in: West Coast IPAs, double IPAs, APAs and hop-forward ales
T90 pellets are the standard for homebrew use - consistent, easy to store and measure.
