East Kent Goldings (T90 Pellet) is one of the most revered hop varieties in the world. Consisting of several clonal variants known by the name of the original grower or village, Goldings delivers a soft, rounded bitterness with honey, lavender, and gently spiced floral aromas that define the character of classic English pale ales and bitters.

Alpha Acids: 4–6% | Beta Acids: 2–3%

Best used as a late addition or dry hop for aroma. The classic English combination of Goldings and Fuggles is timeless. Also pairs well with Challenger for bittering. Use with Gervin GV12 Ale Yeast and Crystal Malt for an authentic British bitter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Goldings hops taste like?

Goldings is the gentlest of the great English hops: honey, lavender and soft spiced-floral notes over a smooth, rounded bitterness. It's elegance rather than intensity — the signature aroma of classic English pale ale and ESB.

What's the difference between Goldings and East Kent Goldings?

East Kent Goldings (EKG) is Goldings grown in East Kent, which holds protected geographical status — the terroir gives a slightly finer, more refined aroma. Goldings grown elsewhere (Kent Goldings, Styrian Goldings) are related but subtly different in character.

What can I substitute for Goldings hops?

Fuggles is the traditional partner and nearest classic substitute (earthier, less honeyed), while Progress offers a similar soft English character. First Gold also works where a modern dwarf Goldings-type is wanted.
