The Muntons Premium range is a set of 1.5kg beer kits made from 100% hopped malt extract, with no cheap adjuncts. Choose from six styles here - most make 40 pints with 1kg of added sugar, and yeast is included in every can.

Pick your style

  • Bitter - classic English pub bitter, well balanced
  • Lager - golden, crisp and refreshing
  • Midland Mild - dark, sweet yet subtle
  • Irish Stout - very dark and very hoppy
  • Cerveza - delicate light lager, great with lime
  • Barley Wine - extra strong; makes 24 pints at about 6%

Specifications

  • Weight: 1.5kg per can
  • Makes: 23 litres (40 pints), Barley Wine 13.6 litres (24 pints)
  • ABV: about 4% (Barley Wine about 6%)
  • Needs: 1kg of sugar, preferably brewing sugar

How to brew it

Stand the can in hot water for 5 minutes, then mix it with 3.5 litres of boiling water and 1kg of sugar in your fermenter. Top up to 23 litres with cold water, sprinkle on the yeast supplied and ferment at 18-21°C - it usually finishes in 4-6 days.

A sensible, good-value range for first-time brewers. You will need Brewing & Winemaking Sugar, a 25 litre fermenter and ChemSan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which styles are available?

Midland Mild, Lager, Bitter, Barley Wine, Irish Stout and Cerveza - choose from the dropdown.

What's in the tin?

Each 1.5kg kit is a tin of Muntons hopped malt extract with a yeast sachet and instructions.

What do I need to add?

Water plus a fermentable - brewing sugar, or spray malt for a fuller body. Check the instructions on your tin for the exact amount and batch size, as these vary by style.

What equipment do I need?

A 25-litre fermenter with an airlock, a hydrometer, a syphon, and either bottles with caps or a pressure barrel. Our home brew starter kits bundle the essentials together.

How do I know when it's ready to bottle?

Take hydrometer readings two days apart - if the gravity hasn't changed, fermentation has finished. Then prime the bottles with Carbonation Drops and leave the beer to condition.
