Pahto (HBC 682) is a super-high-alpha American bittering hop from the Hop Breeding Company, made for early kettle additions. It delivers a smooth, neutral bitterness and a clean finish, so a small amount does a lot of work.
Hop profile
- Origin: USA, Hop Breeding Company (a joint venture of John I. Haas and Yakima Chief Ranches)
- Alpha acid: very high - around 17-20% (HBC); BarthHaas reports about 13-18.5%
- Aroma: mild: herbal, earthy, woody and resinous, with a hint of fruit
- Type: bittering hop
How to use it
Use it at the start of the boil as your bittering charge. Because the alpha acid is so high, you need less by weight than with most hops - scale your recipe with our Hops Alpha Adjustment calculator. Pair it with aroma hops for late and dry hop additions.
Who it's for
Brewers who want an efficient, clean backbone of bitterness in IPAs, double IPAs, pale ales and stronger beers. T90 pellets are the standard form for home brewing - consistent, easy to weigh and easy to store. Keep the opened pack sealed and cold; our hop storage guide explains how.
