Roast barley is unmalted barley roasted to a dark, dry finish - the signature grain of dry Irish stout. It delivers sharp, coffee-like roast, a dry bitterness and a deep reddish-black colour. Unlike black malt, it gives a rounder, coffee-forward roast rather than a sharp, ashy edge.
- Flavour: coffee, dry roast, slight acidity
- Colour: deep red-black
- Typical use: 3-10% of the grain bill
- Great in: dry stouts, porters and dark ales
This 1kg bag is a handy size for most 23L recipes.
