Collection: Home Brew Beer Kits

A home brew beer kit is a can of hopped malt extract plus a sachet of yeast. You mix it with water (and sugar or an enhancer for one-can kits), ferment it for 1–2 weeks, then bottle or keg it, and most kits make around 40 pints. We stock 100+ kits from Coopers, Muntons, Geordie, St Peters, Bulldog, Mangrove Jack's and more, covering lagers, bitters, IPAs, stouts and ciders.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a home brew kit and a beer brewing kit?

Nothing — they're the same thing. "Home brew kit," "beer brewing kit," "home brewing kit" and "kit for making beer" all describe the same product: a complete, pre-measured set of ingredients (malt extract, hops and yeast) that you add water to and ferment at home. See our beer kit comparison chart.

How much beer does a home brew kit make?

Most standard kits make around 23 litres — roughly 40 pints — from a single kit. Larger and premium kits can make more.

How long does it take?

Fermentation is usually complete within 7–14 days, followed by 1–3 weeks of conditioning in the bottle or barrel before it's ready to drink.

What's the difference between one-can and two-can beer kits?

One-can kits (about 1.5–1.8kg) need 1kg of brewing sugar or a brew enhancer added. Two-can or 3kg kits contain all the malt they need and usually need no sugar, which gives a fuller-bodied beer.

Which beer kit is best for beginners?

A one-can kit from Coopers or Geordie is simple and forgiving. If you have no equipment yet, the Coopers DIY Beer Starter Kit includes the fermenter and the ingredients.

Should I use sugar or a brew enhancer?

Brewing sugar (dextrose) works, but a brew enhancer that contains malt gives more body and a better head. That makes a noticeable difference with lagers and pale ales.

Can I make my beer kit stronger?

Yes, within reason. Adding extra malt extract or spray malt raises the ABV and adds body. Making up the kit to slightly less water also increases strength. Avoid simply adding lots of extra sugar, which thins the flavour.

What temperature should I ferment a beer kit at?

Most ale and kit yeasts work best at a steady 18–22°C. Avoid big temperature swings, and keep the fermenter off cold floors in winter. A heat pad or belt helps.
