How to choose a beer kit

What it does: this page lists every beer kit we stock in one place. Search, filter by style or brand, sort by price or ABV, and tick up to four kits to compare side by side.

How to use it: start with the style you like to drink, such as bitter, IPA, lager or stout. Narrow down by brand if you have a favourite, then sort by price or ABV. Tick the kits you're interested in and press Compare to see them next to each other.

What to compare: look at the number of pints or litres each kit makes, the expected ABV, and what you need to add. Some kits contain everything, while others need 1kg of sugar or a brew enhancer. A 40-pint kit makes about 23 litres.

Worked example: say you want a 40-pint bitter for under a set budget. Filter by bitter, sort by price, and tick the three cheapest. The comparison shows at a glance which one needs extra sugar or enhancer, so you can compare the real cost per brew.

Not sure what to add? Read brew enhancer vs plain sugar. Once your beer has finished, check its strength with the ABV calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a one-can and a two-can kit?
One-can kits usually need sugar or a brew enhancer added. Two-can kits get all their fermentable sugar from malt, which usually gives a fuller body.
How many pints does a beer kit make?
Most make 40 pints (about 23 litres). Some make smaller batches, so check the kit details.
Do I need equipment as well as a kit?
Yes, unless you already have it. You'll need a fermenter, airlock, hydrometer, steriliser and bottles or a pressure barrel. A starter kit includes the equipment.
