Getting Started with Home Brewing
Getting Started with Home Brewing
Everything you need to know to make your first batch
1. Pick Your First Kit
Starter Kits (£40–80): Everything included. Perfect if you have no equipment. Takes 4–6 weeks from start to drink.
Extract Kits (£20–50): Faster, simpler. Malt extract does half the work. Ideal if you want results in 2–3 weeks.
Not sure? Email us — we'll suggest what suits your space & time.
2. Gather Your Space
Most kits need just:
- A clean, cool corner (spare room, garage, cupboard)
- Access to water
- Ability to keep it 18–25°C
Heating & cooling equipment available if you need it.
3. Know the Timeline
| Week 1–2 | Brew day, fermentation starts |
| Week 2–4 | Active fermentation (bubbling) |
| Week 4–6 | Bottling & carbonation |
| Week 6+ | Ready to drink (tastes better each week) |
4. Common Questions
Will it smell? A bit during fermentation. Nothing unpleasant — just yeasty.
Can I brew in winter? Yes, but cold slows fermentation. Heat belts (£15–30) help.
What if it goes wrong? Most batches are fine. We have guides for common issues, and our team can advise.
Can I reuse bottles? Yes — any beer bottle works. Clean & sanitise them first.
