Coopers Carbonation Drops are pre-measured sugar tablets that take the guesswork out of bottle priming. Simply drop one tablet into each 500ml bottle before filling with your finished beer — no measuring, no dissolving, no mess. Each drop provides just the right amount of fermentable sugar for secondary fermentation and consistent carbonation every time.
Pack contains enough drops for a standard 23-litre batch (approximately 46 x 500ml bottles).
Frequently Asked Questions
- How many carbonation drops per bottle?
- One drop per 500ml bottle. For larger 740ml PET bottles, use one and a half drops. Don't use two full drops in a 500ml bottle — this will over-carbonate and can cause gushing or burst bottles.
- Can I use carbonation drops with any beer kit?
- Yes — Coopers Carbonation Drops work with any home brew beer, regardless of brand. They're also suitable for home brew cider. Use one per 500ml bottle as standard. Do not use for wine, which doesn't require bottle priming.
- My bottles aren't carbonating — what's wrong?
- The most common cause is bottling before fermentation was complete. Always confirm with a hydrometer before bottling. Also check that bottles were sealed tightly and are being stored at room temperature (18–22°C) for conditioning. Carbonation takes 1–2 weeks minimum.
- Are carbonation drops better than bulk priming with sugar?
- Carbonation drops are more convenient and consistent for beginners, as each bottle gets exactly the same amount. Bulk priming (dissolving sugar in water and adding to all the beer before bottling) can produce slightly more even carbonation across the batch, but requires more equipment and precision. Both methods work well.
- How long do carbonation drops last?
- Stored in a cool, dry place in a sealed container, carbonation drops last at least 2 years. If they've absorbed moisture and clumped together, they may not dissolve as reliably — use fresh drops if in doubt.
