What's Included
A 1.5kg tin of hopped dark ale malt extract and a sachet of yeast. Add water and 1kg brewing sugar or Spraymalt Dark and ferment for around 7–10 days, then condition for at least 3 weeks for the fullest flavour.

What Equipment Do You Need?
This kit is ingredients-only. You'll also need a 25-litre fermentation bucket, airlock, hydrometer, siphon, and bottles or a pressure barrel. Our home brew starter kits include everything in one bundle. Always sanitise with VWP or ChemSan.
Tips for Best Results
- Enhance with 200g Dark Crystal Malt for extra richness
- Use Spraymalt Dark instead of plain sugar for extra body and colour
- Upgrade the yeast to Safale S-04 — a classic English ale yeast that ferments fast, flocculates well for a clearer beer, and brings a subtle fruity character that suits a dark, malty winter ale
- Condition for at least 3 weeks — this style rewards patience and develops real depth over time
