Comet DE is German-grown Comet, a high-alpha hop with a distinctive "wild American" character, supplied as 200g of T90 pellets.
After falling out of fashion it has had a revival in craft brewing, where its unusual, pungent character makes beers stand out.
Hop profile
- Origin: Bred in the USA (released 1974), now grown in the Hallertau, Germany
- Alpha acid: around 9-12% (varies by harvest - check the pack)
- Aroma: grapefruit zest, lemon, passion fruit, elderflower, grassy, resinous
- Best for: bittering and late additions for assertive character
- Great in: American IPAs, pale ales, experimental and heritage styles
- Format: T90 pellets, 200g pack
T90 pellets weigh out accurately and break up quickly in the boil or fermenter, so they are simple to work with. See our hops storage guide for keeping them fresh.
How to use
Use it early in the boil for bitterness, or late, in the whirlpool and as a dry hop for flavour and aroma. Our Hop Scheduler helps you plan the additions.
Who it's for
Adventurous brewers who want something different from the usual citrus hops in an IPA or pale ale.
