Pale Caramalt is a lightly roasted caramel malt from Thomas Fawcett with a pale golden colour and a very sweet, almost honey-like flavour. It adds body and roundness without darkening the beer much. This is the 1kg bag.

What it adds

  • A very sweet, almost honey-like caramel flavour
  • Pale golden colour, so it barely darkens the beer

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between pale caramalt and caramalt?

Pale caramalt is lighter in colour (12-20 EBC from Thomas Fawcett) with a honey-like sweetness, so it suits paler beers than standard caramalt.

Can I use pale caramalt as a base malt?

No. It is a caramel malt for body and sweetness, so use it with a base malt such as Maris Otter or lager malt.

Can extract brewers use it?

Yes. Like other crystal-type malts it can be steeped in hot water and the liquid added to your extract boil.

How far does a 1kg bag go?

At 5-20% of the grain bill it usually covers more than one 23 litre batch.
