Frequently Asked Questions

What do Amarillo hops taste like?

Amarillo is orange-led — sweet orange and tangerine rather than sharp grapefruit — with peach, melon and a soft floral edge. It's juicier and rounder than Cascade, which makes it brilliant in both West Coast and hazy styles.

How should I use Amarillo hops?

Late additions and dry hopping. 20–30g at flameout plus 30–50g dry hop per 23L delivers the full orange character; it also makes a lovely single-hop pale ale where nothing competes with it.

What can I substitute for Amarillo hops?

Cascade and Centennial are the standard substitutes — both citrus-floral, though sharper and more grapefruit-led than Amarillo's soft orange.
