A 250g bag of Crisp Rice Hulls is the easy way to try a filtration aid on your next all-grain brew. Add the inert hulls to a wheat, rye or oat-heavy grist and they help the wort run off clearly instead of stalling in the mash tun.
What they do
- Form an open filter bed in the mash, improving run-off and wort clarity
- Flavourless, with no aroma
- Do not soak up much wort, so your yield is kept
How much to use
Crisp recommends 1-5% of the grist weight, depending on how much wheat, rye or oats is in the recipe. Mix the hulls evenly through the grain so the whole bed drains well.
On a 5kg grain bill that is 50-250g, so this bag is about right for one or two brews.
Useful with
- Wheat Malt - the classic reason to reach for rice hulls
- Rye Malt - for spicy rye ales
- Flaked Oats - for creamy stouts and hazy pales
