Heart Of England Best Bitter is a beer kit for a classic English best bitter: a balanced amber ale with malty sweetness and a firm hop finish. It comes from Hamstead Brewing Centre in Great Barr, where the Heart of England kits are made.
Why brew it
- A traditional English style that kit brewing does well
- Balanced malt and hop character, with caramel notes
- A good everyday ale for the pub-at-home drinker
Serving tip
Best bitter shows off its flavour best served at cellar temperature rather than ice cold, with a gentle level of carbonation. Use the Priming Sugar Calculator to judge how much sugar to prime with, or drop one of the Coopers Carbonation Drops into each bottle.
You'll also need
- A 25 Litre Fermentation Vessel with Tap with an airlock
- A Wine & Beer Hydrometer to check fermentation has finished
- ChemSan - a no-rinse sanitiser for everything that touches the beer
- Bottles and caps or a barrel, plus Coopers Carbonation Drops if you bottle
How to brew it
Clean and sanitise everything, then follow the instructions in the pack. For a brighter pint, add Young's Beer Finings once fermentation is done.
