Progress (T90 Pellet) is a traditional English hop in a 100g pack, bred at Wye College as a replacement for Fuggle. It gives a full, well-rounded bitterness and a soft aroma of sweet grass, flowers and mint.

Hop profile

  • Origin: UK, Wye College; a seedling of WGV, bred in 1951 and released in 1964
  • Alpha acid: around 6-7.5%; beta acid around 2-3.3% (British Hop Association)
  • Aroma: sweet grass, floral, minty and earthy, slightly fruity
  • Type: dual purpose: bittering and late aroma

How to use it

Use it at the start of the boil for bitterness, or late in the boil for a gentle traditional aroma. It is often used alongside Fuggles or Goldings. Alpha acid changes from crop to crop, so check the figure on your pack and scale your recipe with our Hops Alpha Adjustment calculator.

Who it's for

Brewers of British bitters, milds, golden ales and English pale ales who want a softer alternative to Fuggle. Store the opened pack sealed and cold - see our hop storage guide.
