Stout is one of the most forgiving styles for a first-time all-extract brewer — the roasted malt hides small process mistakes far better than a pale lager would, and the Coopers DIY Stout gives you 40 pints of a genuinely good one to learn on.
What's Included
A 1.7kg tin of hopped stout malt concentrate with a sachet of yeast under the lid.

What Equipment Do You Need?
This kit is ingredients-only. You'll also need a 25-litre fermentation bucket, airlock, hydrometer, siphon, and bottles or a pressure barrel. Our home brew starter kits include everything in one bundle. Always sanitise with VWP or ChemSan.
Tips for Best Results
- For a milk stout, stir in 250g of lactose for added sweetness and creaminess (ask us about current stock)
- Steep 200g Dark Crystal Malt to enhance dark fruit character
- Upgrade the yeast to Safale S-04 — a robust English ale yeast that handles higher-gravity dark beers well and flocculates out cleanly, leaving the roasted malt and chocolate notes front and centre
- Don't rush this one off the shelf — stout is one of the few kit styles that genuinely tastes better a month in than at two weeks
- Bottle with Carbonation Drops
