Bitter is the beer that built British pub culture, and the Geordie Bitter is one of the most trusted ways to brew it at home. At just £11.75 for 40 pints, it's also one of the best-value kits on the market — see the spec panel above for exact ABV, colour and timings.
This is the individual single-style kit. For the full range of Geordie styles in one listing, see the Geordie Home Brew Kit Range.
What's Included
A 1.5kg tin of hopped bitter malt extract and a sachet of yeast. Add water and 1kg brewing sugar or light spray malt.
New to brewing?
Read our full step-by-step Geordie Beer Kit brewing instructions — covers the wort, fermentation, bottling, and maturing, from start to first pint.
What Equipment Do You Need?
This kit is ingredients-only. You'll also need a 25-litre fermentation bucket, airlock, hydrometer, siphon, and bottles or a pressure barrel. Our home brew starter kits include everything in one bundle. Always sanitise with VWP or ChemSan.
Tips for Best Results
- Use medium or dark spray malt instead of plain sugar — a bitter's malt backbone is what separates a good one from a forgettable one
- Avoid fermenting too warm, or you'll get fruity esters that clash with the traditional Northern character this kit is built for
- A proper bitter is at its best with a pork pie, a strong cheese, or simply on its own after a long day — don't over-chill it, and let it breathe for a few minutes once poured
