What Equipment Do You Need?
A 25-litre fermenter with airlock, a hydrometer, a syphon, and either bottles with caps or a pressure barrel. New to brewing? Our home brew starter kits bundle everything in one go. Always sanitise your equipment with VWP or ChemSan before you start.
Yeast: ferment with Gervin GV13 Cider Yeast or Mangrove Jack's M02 Cider Yeast. Add Yeast Nutrient for a healthy fermentation.
Fermentation Timeline
Day 1: Mix the kit with your dextrose and top up to 23 litres. Pitch the yeast at 18-22°C.
Day 4-6: Add the dry hops, if not already included in the pouch, once the vigorous fermentation has slowed.
Day 7-14: Fermentation finishes. Confirm with two identical hydrometer readings two days apart before you bottle.
Week 3+: Condition in the bottle or barrel for at least a week before drinking.
Tips for Best Results
- Keep fermentation steady at 18-22°C for a clean, fruity result
- Don't skip sanitisation — cider is especially prone to off-flavours from poor hygiene
- Serve fresh — the hop aroma fades after a couple of months
- Never bottle on the calendar — bottle on the hydrometer
