Winter Warmer is a genre as much as a style — dark, malty ales brewed specifically for drinking by the fire in the colder months, and the Geordie Winter Warmer is a faithful, affordable take on the tradition. Makes 40 pints for £11.75; see the spec panel above for exact figures.

Tips for Best Results
- Enhance with 200g Dark Crystal Malt for extra richness
- Use Spraymalt Dark instead of plain sugar for extra body and colour
- Upgrade the yeast to Safale S-04 — a classic English ale yeast that ferments fast, flocculates well for a clearer beer, and brings a subtle fruity character that suits a dark, malty winter ale
- Unlike most kit beers, this one genuinely improves for months in the bottle — brew it in October and it'll be at its best for Christmas
