Stouts, Porter and Dark Beer Home Brew Supplies

This page gathers stout, porter and dark ale kits: Irish, cream, milk, export and imperial stouts, porters such as St Peters Plum Porter and Muntons Gold Dockland Porter, and dark ales from Coopers and others. There are also Mangrove Jack's Build Your Own dark beer kits and a Grainfather all-grain stout kit.

Buying guide & FAQs

Dark beers suit a slightly longer conditioning time, so they are worth brewing ahead. See also stout & dark beer kits and all beer kits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a stout and a porter?

Both are dark, roasty beers. Stouts tend to be fuller and more roasted, porters a little lighter and more chocolatey, but the styles overlap.

Do stout kits need sugar?

One-can kits need brewing sugar or an enhancer; 3kg two-can kits usually do not. Each product page says what to add.

How long should I condition a stout?

Give it at least two to three weeks in the bottle or barrel after fermentation. Stronger stouts benefit from longer.
